Your hosts Thys and Coretha established
La Rochelle B&B in 2002. They have spent a lot
of time and energy restoring the old Victorian house
to a real treasure that looks even more beautiful
than when it was built in 1885.
They
are outdoor people and created the large garden to
enjoy the open space that the neighbouring wine farms
offer. The garden has large trees that attract 20
– 30 bird species.
The tranquility that one can experience is emphasized
by the special attention that was paid to different
private places to sit and relax in pure silence.
As Coretha has a degree in Home Economics (Stellenbosch)
her passion lies in making the breakfast on the veranda
a work of art. She pays special attention to the purchase
of quality linen for the beds and also to the interior
decoration of the rooms. She is also a committee member
of Wellington Tourism.
Thys is a full time lecturer at
the nearby CPUT campus in Biology and Science. He
is also a very good handy man and creates artistic
iron work burglar bars as well as the artwork in the
bathrooms (towel rails etc). He loves to spend time
outside and is responsible for the garden and pool
too.
Together they love to undertake new
building projects and to renovate buildings and furniture.
Their latest project is the beautiful Lavender Cottage,
just completed. They have been inhabitants of Wellington
for approximately 25 years and therefore well informed
about the town's history, wine farms, restaurants
and other places of interest. They know most of the
town's business people personally.
Thys and Coretha have 4 children
of which 3 are "out of the nest"! The whole
family have outgoing personalities and like to gather
people round them....the reason for true Boland hospitality!!
They are proud to be Afrikaans and hard working!!!!
